MUNDINE vs GREEN
So it's now officially set for April. I think Mundine should start favourite. Though it's very even and I can't split them. It'll be who turns up on the day.
There's this boxer on the Contender called Ishe who is a trash talking clone of mundine, right down to physical appearance. He taunted this boxer called Ahmed for being a Hollywood type. Ishe was cocky and baited Ahmed. They finally met in the ring last nite. Surprisingly, the tables had turned. Ishe seemed quiet and withdrawn whilst Ahmed became the cocky one. So much that he wanted to bash Ishe rather than outbox him. Ishe won a unanimous decsion. He had played Ahmed.

FOOTY N STUFF
-------------
Had 2 really good footy wins in the last 2 days. Really reinforced what I love about team sports and how much I missed it whilst sidelined with injury.
The first game of touch for the year. We played against an all asian team. Don't get too many all asian teams so being an all asian team ourself, there was a little bit of pride at stake. And they could play. It was a tight tussle. We lead 2-1 at half time. I was breathin heavily. Their fast guys took advantage of some lazy defence and scooped with great success and it was 3-3 before you knew it. The girls on our team were doing sensational, having caught 2 cutouts on the wing to score. But their girls matched it and one of em scored to give them a 4-3 lead. Time was running out. We raced back to halfway and 2 rucks later, keith ran onto a great inside ball from mic and slipped through to even things up. With a few minutes left, we were on the attack and some quick hands found jen out on the wing who caught it beautifully and dived over for her 2nd try. Celebrations ensued.
We won in oztag tonite as well against the top undefeated team with no reserves. We started with 7 until Paulus raced on. And boy was it a struggle. Having had 2 games in 2 mths and no external cardio cause of my knee, I was doing it really tough, sucking in the big ones. We trailed 3-1 at half time. Things looked bleak. They had 4 reserves, were young and fast. But in the blink of an eye, we came back thanks to the speed of our 2 younguns who made geat breaks and raced away to tie things as they argued amongst themselves. We had the momentum. A poor missed tag got them to 4-3 but we answered almost immdediately. Then right on fulltime, and I mean righ on fulltime, Lu gives me an inside ball and I swerve and score the matchwinner, yay me!
We're rapt. I almost die from exhaustion. But knee came up ok but still can't put the metal to the pedal. But hopefully will be better with the run.

My first week back at work has been a struggle, mainly with my bodyclock. Having not slept before 1 each nite, going to bed at 11 and getting up at 6:30 is proving quite taxing. Had to work on Australia day cause the work is piling up. Sucked the big one.
>>>>>>>>>
Had an interview with Foxtel for an analyst programmer to dev role. Don't think it went to well cause they were looking for someone with more consulting experience whereas I am more admin based so I'm not holding my breath.

Seems half of the old Seftonites are going to the UK. Another one, Susan Truong who had her farewell at Opera Bar on sat is heading over.

THE CONTENDOR
I've been a so so fan of reality TV. Don't mind it, don't hate it. I prefer sports based shows. TOUGH ENOUGH, a show about hopefuls trying to crack it for a WWE contract was brilliant and has long been my fave reality show. Tonite, watched THE CONTENDER, hosted by Sylvestor Stallone and is based on 16 amateur/pro boxers trying to win a million dollars. It was BRILLIANT! I've always respected boxers. It's the toughest sport in the world - bar none.
The boxers were split into WEST coast and EAST coast teams. They were put through a challenge.....skip forward..... The winning team nominated a boxer they could put forward on the opposing team to challenge one of their own. One of the guys on the winning team put his name up and said he will take on the best boxer on the opposing team much to the amazement of his team mates. The loser would get eliminated.
Alfonso Gomez called out Peter Manfredo Jnr , a guy with a 21-0 pro record who the other guys regarded as the biggest puncher out of everyone. Alfonso's team members
shook their head in disbelief and even Stallone and the trainers were shocked.
Alfonso said it best "I'll either be the hero or the idiot". So they showed the leadup and emotion leading up to the bout. It would be an officially sanctioned match and there was James Caan and Chuck Norris in the crowd. Alfonso, a huge underdog shocked everyone by winning a unanmious points decision. Just the way they filmed the match and the emotion behind it was brilliant.
I'm hooked!

A NEW YEAR
I decided to celebrate my birthday this year with a house party. Since the last few years have been quiet ones, I felt the need to do something this year. I'm hoping for a big year so thought this would be a great way to start things off.
I decided that since everyone seems to have bdays at Habibs - the legendary chicken place that I would instead bring the chicken to us. So we went and picked up the grub and on the way home, the tabouli juice begins to pour out into Lambo's nether regions hahaha . Thanks buddy, I owe ya.
At the end of the do, had a crapload of chicken left. Budgeted for an extra 12 people who never showed so there were heaps of leftovers. So I've been calling up vinnies , salvation army etc asking if they would like some food. A few of the places only take donations from wholesalers, restaurants etc and you have to sign liabilty forms. Too much trouble so I've been handing out platters of chickens to family friends and eating 3 pieces per sitting. Finally gotten down to a reasonable amount. Suffice to say I won't be eating habibs for at least 2 months.
*****************
Job hunting is going kinda slow. I'm being a bit picky. I won't take a role outside the cbd unless it's one I can't say no to. A great role with a great salary came up which I had a long think about. It suited to a tea but was at French's Forest. The recruiter was trying to sell about how with the new M7 it won't be that far. But I still thought it was wayyyy tooooo far. Back to looking
*****************
My knee injury is healing slowly still, quite frustrating. Want to go back into things at full pace but can't at this stage. It feels ok but can get tight when I step.

Time to enjoy my last week of holidays.

REALISATION
I realised that I don't have any close Aussie/NON-ASIAN female friends. All my close female friends are Asian. At work, I get on well with a few of the Aussie girls but I don't know any that I can call to hang out with when I'm bored or confide in. I have a lot of good non-asian male friends but somewhere along the way, I never made friends with any of the female kind. I would like to but it has just never eventuated. I don't see any foreseeable change in the future. Most of my female friends are asian , and their friends are asian too. I wouldn't mind have a few non-asian female friends to chat to, something different. Thats not to say the existing lot are not interesting, I just think it'll be cool to have different types of friends. So I guess one of my goals this year is to make some good female friends who are non-asian for a change.

ANOTHER YEAR BITES THE DUST
It seems that every year I tell myself how fast the year has gone and this year is no different. It's just flown by and I sit here contemplating the going ons of the past year and my goals for the upcoming year. But I'll leave that for another blog.
New Year's eve was spent at Pyrmont at JC and Muddy's new apartment. Swank joint and good do. JC was again violated when he collapsed in a heap due to his over indulgence in the amber fluids. Ended up in bed at 5 and couldn't get up until 2 in the arvo. Took a walk outside and it was hot like a mofo! Apparently the hottest New years day ever.
I spent a week up at Jervis Bay with the Drenai folk. My first time away with the mob and needless to say it was a very enjoyable experience. Great laugh when the guys get together.
Many numerous highlights on the trip but Xmas eve was a standout for me. We indulged in BAD SANTA which resulted in a plethoria of wild and lurid sex toys. It was a hoot and a half. You just had to be there to soak in the moment. Seeing Chi in his BOY GEORGE ensemble was a classic. Laugh a minute he is. Also enjoyed Quang's leopard g-string. Hopefully he puts it to good use soon.
It was also great indulging in the gluttonous excess of festive food. But we countered the buildup of calories by a lot of swimming, cricket and a torturous 3 hr kayaking sojourn. A lot of the time we just lounged around and did things of our own accord which suited me just fine. Just lazing around on holidays with your mates , spinning yarns , it was great.
We played a lot of boardgames. I never realised how crap a drawer I am. I was pretty ordinary in Pictionary. But I loved charades and in particular "articulate". We stayed up late many nights playing these games and the competition played in great spirits were always well fought between teams.
With all things enjoyable in life, time flew by and our week was up before we knew it. A great time had with a great group of people. Hopefully there are many more holidays in store for us in future.
