BULLIES
There's been a lot of press about bullying recently. Experts saying how it can damage the psych and scar a young kid. As a victim of bullying myself, I have to agree. I was bullied in high school and it affected me for many years after. There was a lot of built up anger manifesting in me for a while there. I guess it happens to many young kids but it affected me more than most.
We were playing indoor soccer one day in yr 8 and I was marking this guy who was struggling to make any impact. Musta been my great d. So he goes and deliberately charges me and out of frustration and he breaks his watch. The day after, he blames me for breaking his watch and tells me in no uncertain terms that I need to pay for it's repair or else he would bash me. He gave me a week or so. Actually I think he made me pay half it's repair , he told me to give him 10 bux. Now 10 bux in those days was a lot of money for a young kid. I use to get 2 dollars lunch money a day so I ended up having no lunch for a week and saving the 2 dollars. There was not much I could do cause I was a skinny runt and he was a lot bigger than me. So a week after and lots of intimidation after, I coughed up the money.
I remember talking to one of my good friend Alex's dad after. Alex told his dad about my situation and he was telling me that I needed to stand up for myself more. Hahaha, I was one major wuss back then. Majorly!
I guess that was a big turning point for me. It made me realise that I really did need to stand up for myself. I was scared and it really affected me cause I knew I was too small to do anything. I remember taking up karate for a short time after that to improve my self esteem. I also remember seeing the same guy who bullied me in the gym many years later. Don't think he recognised me but I didn't forget his face. He looked big when I was small but in the present, he was about my height and just looked plain chubby. By that stage I was a lot bigger than him and he didn't look scary then. I more or less felt sorry for him. Little did he know that he played a big part in making me a much stronger person in my later years.
Man that was sentimental!

TIDBITS

Brisbane vs Roosters[original size]
Easter has so far been great. Played golf and ended up watching the Broncos hammer the Chooks in their traditional Good Friday clash. Sucked in Sunsilk girls!
Ok, enuff Rooster bashing. Last nite was Yui's bday at Sumalee. Great Thai food. Really enjoyed the tucker. Only downside for me was the hidden chilli's floundering in the meals. With the ambient lighting, I couldn't tell if they were chilli's or leafy greens and copped a couple. I hate chilli's!
It was hilarious watching the guys holding onto a hunched over Yui while we played "guess who pinched Yui's ass". Damn! hahahah.
Oh yeah, and we made the oztag grand final to be played this Thursday. Top top effort from the boys against a spirited young side. We played with committment and passion and this gives us the chance to make amends for our last Grand Final loss a few seasons back. Go Predators go!

FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD
I love food. I usually like to eat healthy foods during the week and cut loose on the fast food on the weekend. Usually some greasy earthy grub. The greasier the better. It's a good thing I'm very active on the sporting front else I'll be friggen fat as hell.
There's this cafe down the road from work that makes the best hot roast beef. On a roll with mushrooms, onions and gravy, it's sensational!
My friends are obsessed with Habibs. It's this place that specialises in charcoal chicken. My first time trying it, I thought it was grossly overrated. But repeated outings and many bdays at Habibs later, I've developed a taste for it. It's damn good. Half a chicken and chips with lebanese bread dipped in garlic sauce is pretty darned good!
I love those all you can eat asian smorgasboards. In the old days, I would starve myself and then head to the city for a HUGE meal. Spring rolls, sweet and sour pork, mongolian lamb, friend chicken , fried rice....... Choc fulla MSG goodness. Tastebud heaven.
I love ice-cream. Used to love the monaco bars but don't see em around too much these days. I often head down to the local shops to double up on a gaytime and calippo. Can't say I'm much of a gelato fan. I love the NZ natural and nothing beats a banana split. Plenty of cream, nuts and choc sauce. Yum!
My friend whose a dentist always tells me to make sure you drink coke/pepsi with a straw. Thats the best way to avoid discoloration and decay of your teeth as the liquid doesn't hit your teeth. I've taken this on board. Gotta maintain the whites.
Man I'm hungry!

RESPECT
Respect is something that you earn from people. It's not something that you just get. Phi, Chi and I headed down early on sunday morning to watch Green fight Beyer.
Many pundits had predicted an easy win for Green who had too much power and sent Beyer crumbling to the campus twice in their encounter 18 mths prior. It was a good early crowd on hand and after a lacklustre undercard match, Danny Green walked out to the ring to the tune of "land down under". Beyer walked out and you could tell he was apprehensive from the expression on his face. He looked sombre. The bell rang and the match started. The early knockout predicted by many had not eventuated and the fight was a real tussle. Beyer was boxing smart and keeping Green's power at bay. By rnd 12, Beyer survived a late flurry to win in a points decision.
My respect for Beyer grew tenfold. I thought he would be an easy beat. The mental scars would have been too much to overcome. But rather then come out and roll over like a dog, he outwitted his opponent. He came back. He overcame his mental anguish. And for that, Markus Beyer, you have earnt my respect.

ZERO HOUR
I've been watching this series for the last few weeks and have found it to be absolutel captivating. Probably due to the fact that the events portrayed in this series are 100% real and it's produced in such a great realistic manner. Sure they probably spruce it up a bit to add to the drama but it really draws you in.
The first episode portraying the Columbine massacre still gives me chills. The real life footage, the chilling phone calls and survivor accounts. I keep thinking to myself if I was one of the kids stuck in the library, instead of hiding under the desks and being sitting targets, would I have taken the chance to make a run for it. The fear that these kids must have felt is incomprehensible.
As tragic as it is, stories like these need to be told and one can only pray they will never ever be repeated again.
