COLD CASE

It's been a long time since I've been moved watching TV. But watching Cold Case on Monday nite, it was an extremely moving episode - I haven't been able to get it out of my mind. Exceptionally brilliant. It was about a black boy who was murdered for being too strong willed and outspoken in an era ( the 60's ) where prejudice ran rife. It's hard to imagine what went on then for blacks without actually living it. But man, it moved me to bits . I won't forget this for a long time......

LIFE

** I'm currently in the market for a high definition plasma TV and DVD recorder. Been scouring the major retailers and scoping the market. My budget is 5000k so hopefully I can pick up something really cool for that price.

** I bought some shorts at Burwood westfields last weekend. They looked good in the store but when I put them on at home, somehow they didn't look as good as I thought. So I returned them on Saturday and ended up getting new shorts and 3 new shirts. Blardy, time to curb my spending.

** There's a guy who collects money for some charity in front of the Compass centre every Saturday. I feel really sorry for him and I always make some donation to him every time I walk by. Whatever change I have. So I went down there on Saturday on my way to JB Hi Fi to get Batman Begins. But he wasn't there - I wondered what happened to him. Going back to my car, I passed him having a bite to eat - his lunch break I figured. I'll head back down next weekend and make another donation.

** My old man is finally back!!!! I'm sooo relieved. The last month has been a real test for me.

** My holidays have been approved for Dec 19th to Jan 19th. YAY! I'm hanging out for them like you wouldn't believe.

** oztag and touch start in a couple of weeks. I had a mth off from any footy. Was just the tonic I needed and the passion and committment is finally back. Looking forward to the seasons immensely.

** My 10 yr reunion is on next mth but all my close friends have piked it or are not interested. Doesn't seem to have the appeal or the hoopla I was hoping for. As a result, I dunno if I'm going to go myself.

** David Hasselhoff is a legend!

THAI POTHONG

Been meaning to blog about a sensational Thai restaurant work took us to last week called Thai Pothong located in Newtown. It was sensational. First thing I noticed about the place was how bloody huge it was. I love how all the food has coriander on it. I'm a coriander nut!

But I recommend the place http://www.thaipothong.com.au/ . Apparently got Thai restaurant of the year on a couple of occasions.

MARKETS

I haven't been to Flemington markets for at least 10 years. I use to go there religiously growing up. Use to get cheap Reebok shoes and computer console games there. Dunno why I stopped going, just think I grew outta that phase. My folks still go heaps. My mum loves it. So with the old man still overseas, I took my mum and decided to renew my acquaintance with the markets. I seriously forgot how cheap everything is! I don't know the legalities of it and how things work. I dunno if most of the gear there is fake or not, I assume so. I recall reading that Von dutch pulled out of Australia cause their products were being counter feited to death. But there were still heaps of Von Dutch stuff for sale at the markets.
On Saturday I bought Silver Shadow fragrance for 90 bucks. At the markets, they were selling Aqua Di , Britney Spears Curious and basically all of the top brands for 5 bucks a pop! I mean, 5 bucks a pop! Is it real? I thought to myself that perhaps shops take throw away or discarded stock that they can't sell down to the markets. I just dunno how you can fathom selling brand new stock worth close to 100 bucks for 5 bucks. And they were being snapped up like crazy!

Anyway it was great to check it out again. I may pop up to Paddy's sometime again. Haven't been there for ages either......

ROY JONES RIP

Roy Jones Jnr. I remember him moving up to the heavyweights and dismantling John Ruiz in 2003. At that point in time, I confidently suggested to anyone who would listen that he is the greatest pound for pound fighter I had ever seen. Sublimely gifted. Fast as a mongoose with hand speed that makes Mundine look like "Eric the Eel". But after watching his fight against Antonio Tarver on the weekend, I truely hope that he leaves the fight game once and for all. This was his 3rd defeat in a row and he lost the decider against Tarver in their 3rd bout which was previously tied at 1-1. Previosuly invincible, he's just a shadow of himself now. He spent the whole bout show boating. Sticking his tongue out, head wobbles, shoe shuffle and anything you can imagine that showed disrespect towards his opponent. He only managed glimpses of brilliance but didn't throw enough punches to make any impact and lost a unanimous points decision. Funnily enough, in a sign of desperation, he raised his hand at the end of the bout signalling victory but it was more or less a sign of desperation from a once great warrior. Roy Jones Jnr, it's time to call it quits.......
